A mother and two children walking a dust road at sunset carrying everything they own

No family chooses the war that arrives at their door.

122 million people are now displaced by conflict and persecution. Shelter Line funds the unglamorous things that keep them alive — a tarpaulin, a water point, a school that still opens.

What we don't think about

War is loud for a week. Its consequences are silent for a decade.

The headlines end at the ceasefire. The reality begins after it: a family sleeping in a stairwell, a girl who has not sat an exam in four years, a grandmother who stayed because a pension pays rent nowhere else.

Nine in ten people killed by explosive weapons in populated areas are civilians. The rest of the harm never gets counted — the destroyed water pipe, the lost birth certificate, the clinic with no fuel for the generator.

Shelter Line exists for that second, longer emergency.

How we work

Trust is a method, not a slogan.

  • Neutral, impartial, independent

We fund need, not sides. Aid is allocated by severity indicators from OCHA and IPC, never by news coverage.

  • Local partners lead

At least 70% of programme spend goes to national and community organisations already operating inside the crisis.

  • Published to the pound

Every allocation, overhead figure and partner is listed in our public ledger and independently audited each year.

£62 is a roof over one family tonight.

Regular giving is what lets us respond in the first 72 hours, before an appeal is even launched — and stay a year after the cameras leave.
